PugetHounder Supports AKC Responsible Dog Ownership Day

During the month of September, dog owners and dog lovers throughout the Puget Sound will join hundreds of AKC-affiliated dog clubs across the country to celebrate the annual AKC® Responsible Dog Ownership Day in their local communities.

"Each September we shine a spotlight on the commitment it takes to have a canine companion, said AKC Spokesperson Lisa Peterson. "As dogs are increasingly viewed as family members, the need for all dog owners to train their pets to be good citizens and practice responsible dog ownership is more crucial. All dog owners need to be courteous and respectful of others and properly care for their pet so that we can maintain the rights and freedoms that we currently enjoy." www.akc.org

Look for a Responsible Dog Ownership Day event in your area. Each event is unique, all events are fun and informative. One activity commom to most all Responsible Dog Ownership Day events is the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test. The AKC Canine Good Citizen® (CGC) Program sponsored by K9 Advantix allows well-behaved dogs to take a 10-step test and demonstrate the skills they have acquired. The AKC Canine Good Citizen Test is a fun way to demonstrate your dog's good manners! If all ten objectives of the test are met, the handler can apply for a certificate and special dog tag from the AKC stating that the dog has earned the CGC certification.
